Criminal Law and Criminalistics

Criminal law, criminalistics and some other forensic sciences

Team Composition: Members of the Department of Criminal Law, Faculty of Law, University of West Bohemia in Pilsen (both internal and external)

In the past, this research team has dealt with topics such as investigation methodologies of aviation accidents or the analysis of certain legal regulations in relation to criminal law, public law, criminology, or forensic sciences. Currently, the team focuses on contractual or individual projects based on specific assignments.

The main areas of research focus have been and continue to be:

  • Substantive Criminal Law (especially the evaluation of the current legal framework)
  • Procedural Criminal Law (particularly issues of evidence or state interference with fundamental human rights and freedoms)
  • Criminalistics (all forms of criminalistic methodologies, especially the areas of Introduction to Criminalistics, criminalistic tactics, and criminalistic methodology)
  • Criminology (with a particular focus on specific types of crime in terms of their structure, dynamics, and prevention)
  • Juvenile Crime and Criminal Liability of Youth

The fundamental characteristic of the research is to analyze, identify, and describe existing shortcomings in the current legal framework, to compare national legislation with selected foreign regulations and international documents related to criminal law theory, criminalistics, criminology, or forensic sciences.
